Hello there!

It seems you’ve stumbled across my blog. Thank you for taking the time to read this 🙂 The name’s encyclopediagirl—I’m a twenty-two year-old sophomore at university and a confessed cynic being reformed & refined day by day by my precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To Him, I owe everything, including my life. The posts you read will most likely consist of my thoughts and discoveries during day-to-day life, although I may mix it up every once in a while by discussing a book, a philosophical or theological subject, or perhaps a recipe (as I desperately love to read, learn, think, cook and eat). The name of my blog comes from one of my favourite poems, written by a man named Louis Untermeyer (who edited a marvelous collection of poems from around the world called “Stars To Steer By”—I would highly recommend it, even if you don’t care for poetry!), which I will leave you with. Again, thanks for taking the time to browse my wordy ramblings—have a happy one!

God, though this life is but a wraith,
Although we know not what we use,
Although we grope with little faith,
Give me the heart to fight — and lose.

Ever insurgent let me be,
Make me more daring than devout;
From sleek contentment keep me free,
And fill me with a buoyant doubt.

Open my eyes to visions girt
With beauty, and with wonder lit —
But let me always see the dirt,
And all that spawn and die in it.

Open my ears to music; let
Me thrill with Spring’s first flutes and drums —
But never let me dare forget
The bitter ballads of the slums.
